Easy Applications

The criminally overlooked part of any proper sun-care routine is reapplication. The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) indicated on the bottle helps you determine approximately how long you can be outside before burning. The higher the number, the better the blocker, but nevertheless, all sunscreens should be reapplied often throughout the day, even if you have makeup on.

Carry a formula that makes reapplication easy on the go. Peter Thomas Roth’s brush-on SPF will blot away excess oil as it helps protect you from the sun. Supergoop’s formula sets your makeup with a fine rosemary mist that won’t disrupt foundation. And if you’re bare-faced, a portable stick-formula makes touch-ups a breeze.

These sunscreens protect your skin with mineral ingredients (like zinc oxide and titanium oxide) that create a layer to deflect and scatter harmful UV rays, keeping them from penetrating the skin. Those who suffer from eczema, rosacea or any other sensitive skin issues will appreciate this gentler formula.

Mineral sunscreens are the ones to keep in your beach bag, to wear on a sunny hike, an outdoor run or anytime that you are exposed to the sun and water or sweat as these formulas are water resistant and work immediately upon application.

Chemical Sunscreens

There are two types of sunscreen: physical and chemical. Chemical sunscreens work by creating a chemical reaction wherein UV light is absorbed, converted to heat and released preventing those harmful rays from passing into the skin.

Chemical sunscreens usually have some added benefits beyond protection from the sun. For the urbanite, these sunscreens guard the skin from environmental toxins and pollutants, and can include antioxidants that decrease free radical damage. Apply these in the morning as the last step of your skincare routine, before makeup and about 20 minutes before leaving the house (chemical blockers take about 20 minutes to fully absorb into the skin).

Body Guards

As for the rest of the body, you know the drill: cover up with a Broad Spectrum sunscreen. This means that the lotion helps protect you from both the cancer-causing UVA and sunburn-and-cancer-causing UVB rays.

Both Clé de Peau and La Mer make a highly moisturizing SPF for the body and either is great for everyday use. Vita Liberata dry oil SPF 50 has a shimmering tint to it, making it the perfect cover-up for your first trips to the beach post winter hibernation.

When applying sunscreen, think full coverage. Anything not covered by clothing is affected by the sun, including the delicate skin around your mouth, and the tops of the ears, hands and even the scalp. Always carry a protective lip balm (or gloss) with SPF and cover your hands—this is one of the first places to show signs of aging.

Not all sunscreens are created equal as a makeup base. Some formulas pill up or appear too greasy on the skin’s surface, but that doesn’t permit you from skipping this crucial step. Instead, opt for a sunscreen primer like Giorgio Armani’s Maestro UV to help protect your skin and extend the life of your makeup. Chantecaille’s primer works in a similar way, but is made with soothing botanicals that leave the skin feeling nourished and also mattified. Bobbi Brown’s version is packed with caffeine and algae extract to promote healthy skin while fading facial pigmentation, and it provides an excellent base for foundation.

Dermalogica Age Smart Multi vitamin Power Exfoliant

I have ridiculously sensitive skin. Nearly every skincare product causes redness, hives, burning or itching. I have been hesitant to branch out and try anything new because I have found a few holy grail products that make my face so happy. But, I do still battle dryness and sometimes want to look a little more polished. This does the trick. I had heard great things about it but hesitated getting it because I didn't want to deal with the consequences of it not working for me. I finally got it and have been using it for about three months. I will never again go without this! If my skin is particularly dehydrated (from flying, or sun) this instantly soothes it. If I just want a boost this is amazing. It leaves my skin healthy and glowing and feels absolutely amazing on my face. I love this product.

Micro-current Facial Before & After

February 14, 2019

HOLY MOLEY! I was shocked at the result! Her face was more lifted and her lines! Guys, her lines were significantly reduced. We focused at the "11 lines" between her brows and, as you can see , they completely softened. Her cheeks were fuller, the lines around her mouth less pronounced and her neck was like night and day. Needless to say, she immediately went online and booked another appointment!!

"We are so busy with our lives, daily routines, work, house, kids, bills that nobody has time to spend 10 minutes on their face, stress, junk food, wearing makeup every day, sun everything is damaging our skin, and they go to an esthetician thinking they would walk out of the facial room looking 10 years younger,"DO YOU REALLY WANNA LOOK 10 YEARS YOUNGER?" THEN THIS IS THE THING FOR YOU.

 What is Microcurrent?

Treatment penetrates the epidermis, dermis and muscle.

Microcurrent is a clinically tested therapy treatment, and one of the hottest innovations in the anti-aging industry. It is used in top spas and medical offices for facial contouring, toning and firming of aging skin. Microcurrent is a low-level current that mimics the body’s natural current and can provide both instant and cumulative anti-aging results. Because microcurrent works sub-sensory, the treatment is soothing and most clients feel nothing at all.

Microcurrent is a safe and effective technology for clients who wish to attain and maintain a healthier, younger looking appearance. The results can be so dramatic that microcurrent therapy treatments are often referred to as the "5 Minute Facial-lift (R)."

How Does Microcurrent Work?

Microcurrent is capable of facial stimulation, sending soft, gentle waves through the skin, tissues and down to the facial muscles. Microcurrent has been shown to stimulate ATP production. ATP is known as Adenosine triphosphate which drives the creation of key structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin, and is the biochemical way to store and use energy.

This increased ATP also energizes the facial muscles, similar to how exercise energizes the muscles of our bodies. Unlike anywhere else on the body, the facial muscles are directly connected to the skin, so the result of energizing the muscle is often an improved, lifted appearance.

This is one of my all-time favorite additions to any beverage or raw treat. It's loaded with bio-available Vitamin E and D which are fantastic at hydrating and nourishing skin and connective tissue. It's mild vanilla like flavor and creamy consistency make it an amazing add-in to any smoothie, tea or coffee. I've even put in my fat fudge bars! Terrasoul Superfoods offers 12oz, 24oz and 36oz options, which is fantastic because I fly through this stuff.

Why is SPF important?

March 11, 2019

"I have so many clients ask me the same question" Why is SPF important? what does it do? why do i have to wear it everyday?"

Sunscreen protects us from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays: UVA and UVB. UVB rays are responsible for sunburn. ... UVA rays, on the other hand, penetrate deeper into the skin. These rays can lead to long-term effects like wrinkling, premature aging and other skin damage

It's important to know that UVA rays are the ones that penetrate deeper in your skin and can cause skin aging and skin cancer. UVA damage is not reversible and we must protect ourselves at all times of the year from these rays. Wearing sunscreen every day can protect you from exposure to these rays.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the FDA minimum recommendation for daily sun protection is SPF 15. However, the AAD itself recommends using at least SPF 30 during your day-to-day activities and an SPF 50 for any outdoor activities.

SPF 50 means your skin is protected 50 times longer than it would be without sunscreen. However, make sure to reapply regularly, every 2 hours or more often if needed as sunscreen with a high SPF wears off as well.

This is my go to body moisturizer. I've been without it for a few months and I'm so happy to have it back in rotation. It's thick and rich but absorbs fully into the skin. You don't feel like you're wearing something but you do feel moisturized. I love the Kukui Cocoa scent, a little tropical, a little vanilla, but they make a rose and citrus option too. It's super affordable which is also a plus, this girl's on a budget, and you can find it in most "natural sections" of grocery stores now.

Pro tip: Apply you body butter to damp skin fresh out of the shower. This also locks in moisture and it'll help you spread your lotion on without over using product.

This is my favorite everyday SPF. It's summer so I'm slathering it on. I like it best because it doesn't feel sticky or tacky like a traditional sunscreens. Instead, it feels more like a body lotion. It has good wear if you're looking for all day protection. However, as with all natural SPFs, if you're out in direct sun exposure make sure to reapply every two hours.

Mix these two together for extra moisture plus SPF!

This is one of my favorite oil cleansers. Its blend of organic grapeseed and sunflower oil make it a fantastic option for all skin types, even oily acneic skin! It's lightweight, noncomedogenic and full of vitamins and plant stem cells, making it an equally great option for more mature skin as well. I like using my Qyk Sonic Zoe over this oil cleanser. It leaves my skin incredibly soft after my cleanse.

You all probably are familiar with this Prickly Pear Seed Oil by now. It's just too fantastic not to share. With the highest essential fatty acid content of any oil, it has so many benefits. It's noncomedogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and antioxidant. It's high concentration of Vitamin E calms all types of skin irritations. While it's high linoleic acid levels make it great at fighting acne. .

I received this oil this past week and it's quickly becoming a favorite. It's a blend of Argan oil (rich nourishing noncomedogenic moisture), Raspberry Seed oil (a natural form of SPF thats high in antioxidants) and Rosehip Seed oil (a natural source of both vitamin C and A that protects and prevents UV damage). This is a fantastic summer facial oil for all skin types, especially those in need of a little extra moisture and protection. Plus, its blend of organic neroli, ylang ylang and rose otto is a treat in itself.

Holy moly guys! I never knew I needed such a thing but, it's official, I do! This mask is a little slice of heaven! The weight of the stones helps to drain stagnant lymph from the eyes and open the sinuses. The coolness of the jade is incredibly soothing which also helps to de-puff and tighten the skin. Jade has been used for thousands of years as part of beauty rituals and, I'm telling you, it's here to stay! I've been carving out 10-15 minutes in the evenings to wear the mask. It's a great companion to any meditation or breath work you might already be doing.
